{"id":5455,"date":"2019-07-18T08:00:55","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T00:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/?p=5455"},"modified":"2019-07-18T10:47:11","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T02:47:11","slug":"rare-lunar-spectacle-wows-local-stargazers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/2019\/07\/rare-lunar-spectacle-wows-local-stargazers\/","title":{"rendered":"Rare lunar spectacle wows local stargazers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Borneo Bulletin | July 18, 2019  by&nbsp;Khairil Hassan                                                                           <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>THE scene was set during the wee hours of yesterday morning for Bruneians to witness one of astronomy\u2019s rarest phenomena, the clear skies providing a magnificent view of the much-anticipated partial lunar eclipse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"blob:https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/8b98bf33-a607-434e-8003-8038d27fab0c\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/20190717_LEcomposite_Hazarry-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/20190717_LEcomposite_Hazarry-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/20190717_LEcomposite_Hazarry-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/20190717_LEcomposite_Hazarry-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption><em>The partial lunar eclipse. \u2013 HAZARRY BIN HAJI ALI AHMAD<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The cosmic spectacle occurred just before the Moon set, when our natural satellite was partially covered by Earth\u2019s shadow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 9,306 viewers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/bruneiastronomy\/videos\/702712020180400\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"watched the live Facebook (opens in a new tab)\">watched the live Facebook<\/a> feed provided by the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD), broadcast from the Mini Observatory in Kampong Keriam, Tutong District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The penumbral lunar eclipse started around 3.42am while the partial lunar eclipse began at 4.01am, when the Moon was seen engulfed by the Sun\u2019s shadow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 4.40am, half the Moon was already blocked, with the maximum eclipse occurring at 5.30am, the point at which 65 per cent of the Moon was covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next lunar eclipse is on June 21, 2020.
