{"id":18849,"date":"2025-12-14T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T02:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/?p=18849"},"modified":"2025-12-14T18:37:54","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T10:37:54","slug":"2025-dec-14-geminids-meteor-shower-astrocamp-at-kg-sungai-mau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/2025\/12\/2025-dec-14-geminids-meteor-shower-astrocamp-at-kg-sungai-mau\/","title":{"rendered":"2025 Dec 14 Geminids Meteor Shower AstroCamp at Kg Sungai Mau"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bandar Seri Begawan \u2013 Despite <\/strong>challenging weather conditions, a group of fourteen members of the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD) successfully conducted naked-eye observations of the annual Geminids Meteor Shower in the early hours of Sunday, 14 December 2025 at Kampong Sungai Mau, Belait. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event, known as the \u201cGeminids AstroCamp\u201d, was held from 12:30 AM to 2:30 AM, during which members gathered to witness the celestial display and capture it through photography. Based on observations documented by the team, approximately 50 Geminid meteors were sighted, including several striking fireballs, despite limited visibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20251214_geminids_meteor_PABD003.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20251214_geminids_meteor_PABD003-1024x578.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18854\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20251214_geminids_meteor_PABD003-1024x578.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20251214_geminids_meteor_PABD003-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20251214_geminids_meteor_PABD003-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bruneiastronomy.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20251214_geminids_meteor_PABD003.jpg 1156w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>A pre-observation briefing was conducted to inform AstroCamp participants about the Geminids meteor shower, its origin, peak timing, and expected visibility conditions.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One participant, Muhammad Hidayatullah bin Awang Ahmad shared: \u201cIt was a challenging night for viewing, with nearly 80% cloud cover and overcast skies for most of the session. Photo by Mohamad Nur Raziqqien bin Abu Bakar, the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Geminids are widely regarded as one of the most reliable and spectacular annual meteor showers, originating from asteroid 3200 Phaethon. This year\u2019s observation coincided with the shower\u2019s peak between the nights of 13 and 14 December 2025. Under ideal conditions, the Geminids can produce as many as 120 meteors per hour (ZHR), making them a highlight of the astronomical calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meteor showers take place when the Earth, in its yearly orbit around the Sun, crosses paths with streams of cosmic debris released by comets or asteroids. These tiny fragments, often no larger than grains of sand, enter the atmosphere at tremendous speeds and incandesce due to friction with air molecules, creating the luminous streaks commonly referred to as \u201cshooting stars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a
