Japanese amateur astronomer Koichi Itagaki discovered a violent cosmic eruption in the Pinwheel Galaxy on May 19, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A supernova occurs when the core of a massive star at the end of its life violently collapses as it runs out of fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" approximately 21 million light-years from Earth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The celestial outburst will be visible in backyard telescopes for the next few months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator
