<p><strong>Bandar Seri Begawan </strong>&#8211; Members of the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam were at Tanjung Batu for the Hilal of Syawal 1440H observation this afternoon. The new moon was not seen from various vantage points in Brunei due to very thick clouds.Present at the observing site was Yang Dipertua Hj Mahadi bin Hj Md Tahir, the president of the association.</p>

<p> By the command of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu&#8217;izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar &#8216;Ali Saifuddien Sa&#8217;adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the country will start celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Thursday, June 6th, 2019. The announcement on the outcome of sighting for the new moon of Syawal was broadcast nationwide over Radio and Television Brunei.</p>

Negara Brunei Darussalam ingin memaklumkan bahawa persatuan ini&nbsp; <strong>TIDAK
PERNAH MENGELUARKAN KENYATAAN TERSEBUT DAN&nbsp;
TIDAK BENAR.</strong></p>

<p>Go out to look for the daily changing moon crescent in early morning, before sunrise, on May 27 until Jun 02 2019 for the Waning and Old Crescent in the Eastern sky. Continue your observation on evening of June 04 until June 10 2019, shortly after sunset, for the New and Waxing Crescent in the Western sky. </p>

Most challenging &#8211; you may need an optical aids such as telescope or binoculars to spot the slender old Moon crescent on Sunday, 02 Jun 2019 and young thin crescent on Tuesday, 04 Jun 2019. <p><strong>Bandar Seri Begawan</strong> &#8211; The western horizon was generally pretty clear and Venus was visible late afternoon <span style="display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: transparent; color: #333333; cursor: text; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">yesterday (Jun 14, 2018) </span>, but it was very windy and cloudy (from altitude about 6 degree and below) near the horizon where the moon was located in the sky.</p>
<p><span id="more-1909"></span>The 15 hour old Syawal 1439H new moon crescent was sighted <span style="display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: transparent; color: #333333; cursor: text; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">for only few seconds</span> during the new moon observation through Theodolite and CCD  at around 6.53 pm (20 minutes after sunset) from Bukit Agok, Tutong, Brunei Darussalam.</p>
<p>Present at the Syawal 1439 moon sighting was Hj Mahadi bin Hj Md Tahir, the president of The Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam with 5 members.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Bandar Seri Begawan &#8211; July 05, 2016.</strong> A group of members of the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam was at the Agok Hill in Tutong for the moonsighting to observe the new moon of Syawal 1437H. The western sky was partly cloudy especially new the horizon with the sun set behind the clouds on that evening. At about 15 minutes after sunset, at the clouds break, the 24 hour old <em>hilal</em> was firstly visible through telescopes and CCD Camera at around 6.52 pm.<span id="more-1703"></span></p>

<p><em>Abstract</em></p>
<p>There are various methods used to determine the arrival of Ramadan (fasting) and Syawal in South East Asia. Malaysia and Indonesia use the rukyah (sighting of the moon) and hisab (mathematical calculations), Singapore uses the hisab while Brunei only uses the rukyah method. These differences are due to the different basis for using a certain method to determine the arrival of Ramadan and Syawal. The basis here refers to religious references and forms of istidlal (inferences). The question is, what religious references are used to substantiate the adoption of the rukyah method in Brunei? What is their form of istidlal based on the religious references? To answer all these questions this study has two objectives. Firstly, it intends to determine the religious references that act as the basis for using the rukyah method in Brunei. Secondly, to analyse the different forms of istidlal based on the religious references. In order to achieve these objectives, this qualitative study used library research and expert interview methods for collecting data. All the data were analysed using the content analysis method. Lastly, this study concluded that religious references from the al-Qur’an and Hadith used as a basis for applying the rukyah method in Brunei is similar to the religious references used as a basis for applying rukyah and hisab in other South East Asian countries. The only difference is the various forms of istidlal.</p>

<p>Bandar Seri Begawan, 13 November 2004 &#8211; Rukyah Hilal Syawal diadakan pada petang hari ini bersamaan 29 Ramadhan.</p>
<p>Persatuan Astronomi Negara Brunei Darussalam juga membuat cerapan anak bulan pada petang tadi bertempat di kawasan lapang Bukit Agok, Tutong. Hanya empat orang ahli PABD yang hadir untuk pencerapan.</p>

<p>Walaupun kawasan sebelah ufuk barat berawan sedikit, sabit anak bulan yang berumur kurang dari 20 jam telah kelihatan selepas beberapa minit matahari terbenam.<br />

<p>Anak bulan mula kelihatan menggunakan binokular pada jam 18:10 (altitud 6 darjah) dan masih kelihatan sehingga jam 18:32 (altitud 1 darjah). Hilal kelihatan begitu nipis dan anggaran panjang lengkok sabit pula ialah dari pukul 2 hingga 8 berdasarkan skala jam.</p>

<p>Peralatan yang digunakan untuk merukyah tadi ialah binokular 15&#215;100 sahaja. Walaupun penglihatan anak bulan cuba dibuat mengunakan mata kasar, namun hilal masih sukar untuk dilihat kerana cahaya langit yang masih terang.</p>

<p>Kenampakan hilal pada petang tadi adalah di antara rekod umur yang paling termuda iaitu 19 jam 42 minit dari hasil cerapan-cerapan hilal di Negara ini.</p>
<p>PABD turut memaklumkan hasil cerapan kepada pihak Jabatan Ukur dan juga memberi data-data cerapan kepada Islamic Crescents&#8217; Observation Project (ICOP), Persatuan Astronomi Jordan.</p>
<p>Umat Islam di negara ini mula berhari raya Aidilfitri esok (14 November 2004) selepas pengumuman berhasil merukyah anak bulan yang diwartakan di TV dan Radio pada malam tadi oleh pihak berkuasa.</p>
