Bandar Seri Begawan – As the Sun dips low over Brunei’s coastal horizon today, it sheds its perfect circle. Why?

The Sun appears oval or squashed near the horizon due to atmospheric refraction – a fascinating optical effect caused by Earth’s layered atmosphere.

This visual distortion is due to sunlight travels through a thicker slice of the atmosphere at sunset compared to midday. This dense path bends (refracts) the light unevenly.

Refraction lifts the lower limb, compressing the golden disk into an ethereal ellipse.

Perencanaan Awal

Translate to English by Google

Identifikasi Jalur Totalitas (Presentasi Perencanaan GMH 2023

Rata-rata Awan Bulan April Sepanjang Jalur Tengah Gerhana (Eclipsophile berdasarkan data EUMETSAT)

Analisis Lingkungan Sosial & Ketersediaan Konektivitas (Presentasi Perencanaan GMH 2023)

Negara (alfabetis)

Organisasi/Institusi

Jumlah Orang

Brunei

Astronomical Association of Brunei Darussalam

1

Indonesia

Institut Teknologi Sumatra (ITERA)

5

ArisanAstro

2

Forum Ekselen Bisnis Indonesia (FEBINDO)

1

Timor-Leste

Komisaun Nasionál Timor-Leste ba UNESCO (KNTLU)

5

Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa’e (UNTL)

2

Ziziphus

1

Vietnam

VietAstro / Ho Chi Minh City Amateur Astronomy Club (HAAC)

10

Danang Astronomy Club (DAC)

2

Vietnamese Astronomical Society

2

Vietnamese Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA)

1

Logo Tim Ekspedisi GMT 20 April 2024

Penentuan Lokasi

Garis Tengah GMT 20 April 2024 Melalui Pantai Airleu (Presentasi Persiapan GMT 2023)

Kedua, pemandangan sekeliling Com sangat indah alami.

Panggung Hiburan Rakyat (dokumentasi Penulis)

Bandar Seri Begawan – On May 28 every year, at 5:16 pm local Brunei time...

Bandar Seri Begawan – On May 28 every year, at 5:16 pm local Brunei time (09:16 UT), the sun will be precisely overhead (at Zenith) in Makkah and exactly above the Kaabah. At that instance, the Sun in other areas will be directly aligned to the direction of Kiblat.

This phenomenon known as istiwa adzam is useful as an easy Islamic astronomical method to determine the exact direction of prayers (Kiblat) where only half part of the world that receives the daylight can apply this method.

Above: Facing about west of Brunei, the method of determining the Kiblat using the shadow of vertical column during the “istiwa adzam” in Makkah.

Lighted areas of the world where experiencing daylight will be able determine the Kiblat using the sun on May 28 at 5.16 pm Brunei Time.

Follow these simple steps to check and correct the Kiblat from your area:

1. You must use a straight objects such as a pole or side of the house. It must be vertical which must be checked with a weight tied to a thread (plumbline).

2. The object must not be in places under shade, such as under a tree or in the house. It must be placed in areas that receive direct sunlight, for example, in a spacious yard.

3. At exactly 5:16 pm May 28 (Brunei Time), the shadow’s line produced by the sun is the Kiblat direction which is facing toward the sun.

In a year, the sun will be directly above the Kaabah twice, on every 28th May at 5:16 pm and again on July 16th at 5:28 pm Brunei time.

Bandar Seri Begawan – People in this country will have the opportunity to witness the rare sun eclipse on Thursday morning, April 20, 2023. The cosmic event will be expected to begin at 11.06 a.m. and end at 1.43 p.m.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon is perfectly aligned between the sun and the earth. During the partial eclipse, the moon never completely covers the sun.

The phenomenon of a partial solar eclipse will last for 2 hours 37 minutes, where throughout this celestial event, the Moon will obscure a small fraction of the sun. During the greatest eclipses, i.e. at 12.24 p.m., nearly 34 percent of the sun will be covered by the Moon.

People who wish to observe this phenomenon are advised not to look at the sun directly. Some of the safe methods of watching the sun eclipse are employed by using Shade 14 Welding Glasses, solar filters or by telescope projection.

Solar eclipse of the Sun is an uncommon phenomenon. The previous solar eclipse in Brunei happened on 21 Jun 2020. The next phenomenon of solar eclipse will occur again in Brunei on Thursday, 22 July 2028.

Bandar Seri Begawan – People in Brunei Darussalam will be able to experience the Zero Shadow Day phenomenon where shadows at noon will “disappear” on Saturday, April 02, 2022.

On the day, the Sun gets to the highest point in the sky at Zenith (directly overhead or 90° above the horizon). Its rays will make the shadow of any object to fall directly beneath it, which seem like there are no shadows.

The Earth’s rotational axis is tilted at the angle of 23.5° making the Earth orbits the Sun at an angle. Thus, the path of the Sun in the sky is not always the same each day.

There will be twice in a year when the Sun is directly overhead which only occur at specific regions between the latitudes Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.

Above: Areas along the 4.9 degrees North latitude will experience the Zero Shadow on April 02 and September 10 annually.

In Brunei Darussalam (as well as areas along latitude 4.9°N), the biannual subsolar point happens on April 02 and September 10.

You can stand or place a vertical object (such as pole, bollard, and bottle) in the sun. You will see the shadow getting shorter and shorter, and eventually disappear at exactly the stated time. It will last for 30 to 40 seconds before the shadow reappears later.

By Lyna Mohamad, Borneo Bulletin (June 23, 2020)

Skywatchers across Brunei Darussalam were treated to a partial solar eclipse, which began yesterday at 3.10pm.

Many used special solar glasses to witness the rare annular event at outdoor locations, while others watched it through a livestreamed session conducted from 2.45pm to 5.30pm by the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD).

A member of Brunei Darussalam Astronomical Society, Haji Mohd Azri bin Haji Ibrahim speaks to the Bulletin

The livestream for the Brunei-Muara District was carried out at the Kiarong residence of PABD member Haji Mohd Azri bin Haji Ibrahim, who had even set up viewing equipment for
eager observers.

The PABD also had several other back-ups and livestreaming at strategic points across the country to enable more views of the eclipse.

The observation event was organised by PABD, in collaboration with the MY-East Asia Universe Awareness Solar Eclipse (MY-EAUNIVASE) project, under the partnership network of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) National Outreach Coordinators in nine East
Asian countries.

PABD also collaborated with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) to host a livestreaming discussion titled ‘Astronomy Talk: The Phenomenon of Solar Eclipse’, on June 19 evening.

The general astronomy talk programme provided an opportunity for the public to interact with astronomy and falak syari’e experts.

Brunei Darussalam will witness the next solar eclipse on April 20, 2023.

Bandar Seri Begawan – A solar eclipse expedition of RING OF FIRE will take place in conjunction of Dec 26, 2019 Annular Solar Eclipse in December 2019.

Join the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD) for this
exclusive 6-days Expedition (22-27 December 2019) to witness the annular eclipse of the sun in Sri Aman, a collaboration with Jawatankuasa Pengurusan Masjid Bandar Sri Aman.

Truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure! Register and Join the convoy at www.bruneiastronomy.org/xpdc

The road trip /convoy will bring you a rare opportunity to watch “a string of beads” (Baily’s Beads Effect) from the edges of the sun, and a very spectacular sight as a small “ring of fire” or annulus remains around the sun at greatest eclipse. This is a rare celestial event as the next annular eclipse will take place in Borneo in 2031!

Details and questions, join PABD Expedition Whatsapp group www.bruneiastronomy.org/expedition or call +673 815 8392 (Husaini)

Bandar Seri Begawan – The planet Mercury will transit in front of the sun on 11 November and ends on 12 November (Brunei Time). The passage will take for a total of 5h 28m 48s and will be visible from America, Europe, Africa and Western Asia. The phenomenon will not be visible from South East Asia including Brunei Darussalam and Australia.

Planet transit takes place in stages and the followings are the key time of contacts (Brunei Time) :
I (first external contact of Mercury with the Sun’s disk): 20h 35m 26s
II (first internal contact of Mercury with the solar disk) : 20h 37m 08s
Greatest (distance between the planet’s disk and the sun’s centre at minimum): 23h 19m 48s
III (last internal contact): 2h 02m 33s
IV (last external contact): 2h 04m 14s

Mercury transit happens about 13 or 14 per century, and this is the last one for 13 years. The next one is on November 12, 2032.
