<p><strong>BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Isnin, 5 Ogos. &#8211; </strong>Kesatuan Astronomi Antarabangsa (International Astronomical Union &#8211; IAU) menganugerahkan Negara Brunei Darussalam sebuah planet dan sebutir bintang induknya pada 2 Ogos 2019 untuk diberikan nama yang sesuai oleh rakyat negara ini.</p>



<p>Pihak IAU memperuntukkan sebuah planet dan bintangnya kepada setiap negara di dunia untuk dinamakan.</p>



<p>Brunei Darussalam turut diberikan sebutir bintang HD 179949 dan sebuah planet gergasi bergas (exoplanet HD 179949b) yang terletak dalam buruj Sagittarius untuk dinamakan.</p>

<p>Exoplanet adalah planet yang mengelilingi bintang lain di luar sistem suria. Setakat ini, sebanyak 4,000 exoplanet berjaya ditemui dan kebanyakannya belum diberikan nama yang sesuai.</p>



<p>Buat julung kalinya, Program Name Exoworld Brunei Darussalam telah dilancarkan pada 4 Ogos 2019 oleh Yang Di-Pertua Persatuan Astronomi Negara Brunei Darussalam (PABD), Awang Haji Mahadi bin Haji Md. Tahir semasa Pengumuman Khas persatuan berkenaan yang disiarkan langsung di dalam talian (online) melalui laman Facebook persatuan berkenaan.</p>



<p>Kempen peringkat kebangsaan itu dianjurkan oleh Persatuan PABD selaku IAU National Outreach Coordinator dengan sokongan pihak-pihak tertentu untuk memberikan peluang kepada rakyat juga penduduk negara ini untuk menamakan bintang dan planet tersebut bermula Ogos ini.</p>



<p>Yang Di-Pertua PABD, Awang Haji Mahadi dalam ucapan pelancaran program tersebut berkata program global itu akan memberikan peluang orang Brunei untuk menamakan bintang dan planet tersebut, yang mana cadangan nama yang terpilih nanti akan diabadikan untuk generasi di negara ini yang akan datang.</p>



<p>Program Menamakan Bintang dan Exoplanet (Name Exoworlds) merupakan inisiatif global sempena Sambutan 100 Tahun Kesatuan IAU.</p>



<p>Syarat-syarat bagi mencadangkan nama bintang dan planet tersebut berserta maklumat program NameExoWorlds boleh dicapai dengan melayari laman sesawang &#8216;www.bruneiastronomy.org/NameExoWorlds&#8217;.</p>



<p>Penyertaan bagi program itu adalah dibukakan kepada orang ramai di negara ini, akan bermula pada 10 Ogos hingga 10 Oktober 2019.</p>



<p>Cadangan-cadangan nama planet dan bintangnya akan dipilih secara undian secara dalam talian oleh orang ramai.</p>



<p>Nama yang mempunyai undian tertinggi oleh negara ini akan dimaklumkan terus kepada pihak IAU untuk penelitian terhadap cadangan tersebut, di mana keputusan nama planet dan bintang tersebut akan dimaklumkan secara rasmi daripada IAU pada Disember tahun ini.</p>

<p>Bandar Seri Begawan &#8211; Brunei Darussalam Astronomical Society had a discussion with Professor Boonrucksar Soonthornthum, Director of National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), yesterday afternoon (16 July 2011).</p>
<p>Among the purposes of the meeting is to promote astronomy education and popularizing astronomy in this country. Boonrucksar who is also the national members of International Astronomy Union (IAU) wishes the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam, and Brunei in general, to establish cooperation with South-East Asian Astronomy Network (SEAAN). This network serves South-East Asian countries to collaborate and strengthen Astronomical research activities in this region.</p>
<p>Briefing on the International Astronomy Union information is also presented by Professor Boonrucksar Soonthornthum. He explained that &#8220;Thailand has become a national member of the IAU in 2006 and currently there are 70 countries or national members.&#8221; Currently, Brunei has not been a candidate to become the member of the IAU.</p>

<p>NARIT has a number of modern observatories. Among them is the Thai National Observatory is located in the Province of Chiang Mai houses a 2.4 meter telescope. Attract also established five fruits and k. Public Observatories One of the prototype is located in Southern Thailand (about the same latitude as Brunei) and Professor Boonrucksar Suggested that this observatoy to be one of the research center for Islamic Astronomy. These observatories are expected to be in operation in 2012, next year.</p>
<p>Present at the meeting were Exco PABD: Dk Ratna (Treasurer), Hj Julaihi (Deputy Secretary-I), Pg Shahdani (Deputy Secretary II) and Dyg Salmah (Exco member). Also participating in the discussions is Dr Dr Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal, Deputy Raes of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (Kupu SB).</p>
